Let's get the bad news out of the way first. My blog has, I hope temporarily, lost the capacity to load photos. I'm working on it but it may be a week - or more - before I can load any more images. Meanwhile, I'll post photos on my Facebook and Google+ pages.

On the good side, today I head off to explore the west of Ireland for a few days. As a knitter I'm looking forward to the Aran Islands. As a fan of the movie Princess Bride I plan to visit The Cliffs of Moher. Will keep you posted, as usual. Because I'll be travelling the main blog may not come out on the scheduled day, but I'll do the best I can with the resources available.

When I return to Borris I'll be working on a new book. I'm putting together a volume of my most popular short stories, both from the site and from my files. Initially it will be in PDF format, although hard copy may be a possibility in the future. I'll keep you posted!

For one week only, "Hot Summer's Knight" is ON SALE at Amazon US and Amazon UK for the ridiculously low price of $US0.99.

It's a thriller and a romance set in medieval France, a great read for a rainy Sunday or a quiet night in. (Guys, don't let the word"romance" put you off, there's plenty in there for you too.)

It doesn't pretend to be Literature, it's got less bondage than "Fifty Shades", the body count is low, and there aren't any car chases at all. Despite this I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

So for less than the price of a cup of coffee give yourself a treat, and click on one of the links in the first paragraph. If you haven't got a Kindle, Amazon provide you with the free software. Remember to leave a review on Amazon!

My goal is to sell 1,000 copies this week. Use the social media buttons at the side of this page and help make "Hot Summer's Knight" go, if not viral, at least slightly contagious!

For ONE WEEK only, starting on Sunday, 24th May, "Hot Summer's Knight" will be available at a substantially reduced price ($US0.99) to those of you who can access Amazon US or Amazon UK.

How do our brains work?

Why do our minds work the way they do?

Earlier this week I saw Luc Besson's new film, Lucy. M. Besson has long been one of my favorite directors. I still watch The Fifth Element and all the Transporter movies a few times a year. He has a very European way of putting a story together, a knack Hollywood would never quite understand, and Lucy is destined to maintain his reputation. The last time I came out of a cinema unable to speak was 1990 after I'd seen La Femme Nikita, another one of M. Busson's excellent creations.

"Lucy" will also reignite the debate about how much of the human brain is actually used. M. Besson has already gone on record saying he knows we use far more than the 10% mentioned in the film, but that it was an excellent premise for a movie. I agree with him completely. Much research has gone into proving how much, where and how we use our brains, and general consensus seems to be that we use quite a lot, although we don't always know what for or why. ...continue reading "Lucy & Alarm Clocks"
